State Senator Gillmor visits campus
BELLEFONTAINE – State Senator Karen Gillmor, representing the 26th District of Ohio, visited the campus of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine on April 12. Gillmor toured the district led by Daniel McCully (Health Technology, Riverside) and Ashley Bisel (Business Administration Technology, Triad), both student ambassadors in the high school.
Senator Gillmor visited several labs, including Animal Management, Information Technology, Business Administration Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Architectural and Mechanical Design and Automotive Collision Technology, where she saw the new state-of-the-art paint booth students have the opportunity to learn within thanks to partial funding by the Dr. Earl Sloan Foundation. Students in Electronics Engineering Technology showcased a robotics project they were working on and demonstrated to her how it worked. Senator Gillmor also learned more about the high school’s college credit agreements in place with various colleges and universities, which allows students at Hi-Point to earn credit while in high school.
The tour finished in Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s Adult Education Integrated Systems Technology laboratory, where adults can re-train in various manufacturing and technological systems at his or her own pace. The laboratory’s design is based upon similar equipment found in Honda of America plants. Senator Gillmor learned more about how Hi-Point’s Adult Education Division is helping re-train the workforce and assisting those who have been impacted by the current economic situation.
“I was very impressed by everything I saw during the tour and want more people to be aware of the opportunities available at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center,” said Senator Gillmor.
