The Ohio Hi-Point Career Center HVAC-R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) program offers practical knowledge and skill training necessary to become an HVAC-R technician.  Students in this program experience hands-on training in the classroom and on the job site and certification opportunities that prepare them to enter the workforce upon completing the program.  Certification opportunities include the EPA 608, 609 and 410a, NATE (North American Technician Excellence) and ICE (Industry Competency Exam).  This comprehensive program meets the needs and demands of a growing career field.  Classes are held at Ohio Hi-Point’s South Campus location in Urbana, Ohio. 

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The HVAC-R program trains competent service technicians and installers preparing them to fill an ever-increasing need of knowledgeable technicians.  Students prepare to earn certifications that are highly recognized in the HVAC-R industry and have the opportunity to find a rewarding career in the field of HVAC-R.  Certified HVAC-R technicians enjoy job security not found in many careers today along with the freedom to relocate in most areas of the country due to the high demand for skilled HVAC-R technicians. 

ADDITIONAL HVAC-R COURSES

Fundamental HVAC-R courses that focus on basic HVAC-R are available at the Bellefontaine main campus.  Courses include Thermal Systems and Environmental Applications. 

Thermal Systems – 30 hours - $540.00

Topics include: thermal system power; enthalpy; temperature measurement; gas laws; thermal science concepts; heat transfer methods; thermodynamic cycles; refrigeration system operation; refrigerant types; heat pump system operation; thermal efficiency; refrigeration components; phase diagrams and property tables. 

Environmental Applications – 30 hours - $540.00

Topics include: heat load; insulation; r values; thermodynamic efficiency; heat loss; humidity: dew point; psychrometrics; air conditioning; thermal system design and human comfort factors.
